White Milk from the Evil Breast

Ivalo Frank writes about her video: White-ness, I-ness, layers, lying, lying down, lying here, lying in the world, at this point in time, where do we go, how do we prevent, what happens, from, happening.

The poem opens the book of poetry Die, lie, die in which criticizing whiteness is crucial, both in connection with skin color and valorization in poetic figurative language. There is nothing pure about whiteness, the pureness is an illusion, a construct. It isn't only snow that is white; maggots and toilet bowls are also white. SHE'S A SHOW says: Any idea of whiteness as better or more superior is a lie, and we want it to die.

Performing this song is a ritual. Through vocal improvisation we open up to the 'ugly' sides of the female voice, the 'hysterical' scream, the sobbing, the deep register. By doing this together, we clear our hearts. And so, we get the courage to go on, fight on.

White Milk from the Evil Breast

Oh, white milk from the evil breast!
White nights, wild nights, white nights, white
birches in a Russian or Scandinavian forest.
You ladies of the forest, white
goddesses, I beg you: Do not
break with hard pain, oh ladies, my heart.

(repeat three times: whispering, talking, shouting)
